By December of 2014, I was a little over a year into my professional acting career. I had listened to hundreds of hours of podcast interviews, packed with a never-ending plethora of amazing and inspiring stories that you would never expect to hear from Hollywood’s elite storytellers. Their lives were not always extravagant, their journeys were long and unforgiving. Mistakes were made, rejections abounded but with some helping hands and a bit of good timing, they now create history-making art of the highest level.
I meet many great people who are on similar journeys who have their own amazing and inspiring stories. Actors, writers, producers, directors, musicians, poets: they are all working on their own history-making art. Sometimes, I am even fortunate enough to be a part of their projects. Many times, that’s how we meet. So I decided, enough is enough. I want the world to know about my amazing friends/colleagues and learn from them in the process. And thus began SideKickBack Radio.
Why “side” and “kick” and “back?”
In finding the identity of this podcast I found two terms that have important meaning to me.
1) In casting film and television, “sidekick” is a term that has been used a lot on me. The funny best friend, the right-hand man, the guy that has the hero’s back. That’s me and I’m sticking to it.
2) A “kickback” is an informal get together of close friends; a hang that often lasts into the wee hours of the morning. I’ve had many of these in my day, and I love them. A “kickback” can also be an added benefit of a partnership. I know, convenient right?
So I put the two together because, why not…
